A confusing mess...
...which is a shame given that Cyberghost is an excellent VPN service. To the reviewers who didnt realize that the free tier of service has limitations: meh.
The problem with the APP:
1. As far as Ive found it isnt a gateway to their service at all. Its an intermediary to install the profile (Settings>General>Profiles). Once thats installed you turn on VPN from Settings, and I have no idea what the app is for.
2. Only 5 nations have servers listed. No way to switch servers. If you try, youre promoted to install a whole new profile.
3. After a couple of tries with this, I now cant log in at all. The app tells me Ive reached the maximum number of devices, even though my iPhone is the only one. Merp.
4. Bestvpn.coms review states that switching authorized devices is as simple as logging in with the new one, whereupon the first connection is dropped. Not true. You have to log in to your Cyberghost account and remove the first device (if youre already using it on, say, a desktop) for any of this to work in the first place.
5. The app installs an L2TP profile. Should we assume its L2TP/IPSec? Maybe, but the profile doesnt say so and it should. Regardless, its less secure that OpenVPN. Cyberghost recognizes that OpenVPN is best for its desktop users. Why would they implement L2TP for mobile devices?
Cyberghost: this app is a confusing mess, use OpenVPN for mobile devices, allow easy device switching, and give users what they paid for!
